Farewell to the tonsils

I'm not even going to think about uploading Christmas pictures until I go somewhere with more sophisticated internet than we have. Thanks to the internet and cell phone service we are THIS close to moving back to town, but don't tell my daddy. He would lose it if he thought the girl was moving more than a mile away.

We spent the Wednesday after Christmas just like this. (Except, of course, I chose to wear clothes.) It was rainy and cold and the perfect day to lay around doing nothing.

She got several movies for Christmas and we have watched parts of all of them.

Thursday morning we left at 4 AM to have her extra large tonsils removed along with her adenoids. We had to be there at 5:45 and shortly after arriving she starting saying, "wonna go home." As soon as they took us back she started refusing to have her blood pressure taken, but most of all she hated the oxygen meter that was nothing more than a band-aid on her finger.

Shortly after that they decided to give her drops to relax her before they took her back. She left on the stretcher without crying (which helped my feelings a lot). The nurse said he would drive her fast on the stretcher so she was okay with that.

They took her back at 7:15 and told us it would be about 45 minutes. At 9:30 when we still had not heard from anybody I started to get a little panicked. I went to the nurses station and they called recovery to check on her. We had been told we would be the first people she saw when she woke up...not true. When they called recovery I could hear her screaming in the background. They finally let us go back when they decided that she wasn't in pain she just wanted us. (I tried to tell them that, but what do I know? I'm only her mother.)

Anyway, D.D. made this picture of all the excitement on the waiting room. Big Daddy, MeeMaw, and PeePaw watching the back of their eyelids while they waited.

In recovery. (That's her monkey next to her in the gown. She was NOT going to wear it that morning so the monkey got to. I don't blame her it was hideous.)

We had to stay in the hospital overnight since she is only 2 and rather small for her age. By 5:00 that night we were looking for something to do so we toured the hospital three sixteen times in a little red wagon while she ate everything from ice cream to Popsicles to honey buns. She lost her tonsils and found her appetite.

Our friends Wesley and Kathryn surprised us with a visit. Kathryn is a nurse and Wesley is officially (as of last week) a nurse anesthetist (we have such smart friends)  so they confirmed all the steps that been taken were typical. (Like giving Reese morphine right after surgery.... which I had my doubts about...they said it was standard procedure). They even brought her balloons which made them an instant favorite. PeePaw also went to the gift shop and got her balloons which had all of us concerned that he might get lost and never been seen again. But twenty forty minutes later he returned;)

She has thoroughly enjoyed the endless supply of Popsicles.

Exactly 8 years ago (from the day she had surgery) BFF Steph and I went on a camping trip with some friends. That camping trip ultimately landed me a husband. I sent Steph a text while laying in this crib/cage that it was about as comfortable as that tent we had slept in exactly 8 years earlier...and not nearly as fun as a rowdy camping trip with some of our favorite people. ;)

What followed this picture was, hands down, the longest night of my life. We were all miserable. And her Daddy got up at 4 the next morning and went to work. Lord bless him. It took him days to catch up on his sleep.

She drank enough the next morning that we got to come home around 10:00. She hasn't slowed down since then.

    1. Just to let everyone know, Reese's Mommy did so good the day of the surgery. We, her Dad and I, were more worried about Elena than we were about Reese. Thanks for all the prayers that went up for Reese. She is a trooper and more like her Mommy every day.
